Week 5

I cannot believe we're already into week FIVE of school!!  It's going so well and we're all having a great time.  I have to admit that I am pretty surprised it's gone so well.  We've had our share of less than stellar moments but for the most part they are having a lot of fun and I haven't sold them to China yet.  ;)

I'm hoping to get better about blogging each week so that I'm not clogging up Facebook with school pics and so our non-Facebooking family can keep up with our progress.

Sydney working on her fine motor skills *aka* trying to remove stickers from her ride-on toy.  She LOVES taking stickers off of things.  I have some stuck on a frisbee for her to pull off but this must have seemed like a better option today.

Shaving cream clouds!  They weren't so sure about using their hands at first but by the time we were finished they both needed a good rinsing.

Cottonball Clouds!  I hadn't anticipated it being so hard for them to manipulate the cottonballs without pulling them completely apart.  A little frustrating for the kids but they got the hang of it eventually.

See they were all smiles by the time we finished.  ;)

Yesterday we made "tally buddies" (thank you, Pinterest) to help learn the concept of tally marks.  These are especially helpful for my squirmy, hands on learner.

Syd wanted to check them out too.

This guy apparently inherited his Daddy's love of numbers.  When he finished his handwriting he asked if he could do these addition problems.  haha  He definitely did not get that from me!

Worksheets

I created a couple worksheets today to go along with our lessons for next week.  Obviously they're nothing fancy but will definitely get the job done.  :)

First Day of Kindergarten!

I haven't had an opportunity to sit and type up a blog entry about our first day but I figured I would at least upload some pictures.  These are from our first few days...

School Organization Bin

After lots of prayer and discussion, Hubby and I decided that homeschooling would be the best choice for the twins as they head into Kindergarten this year.  I'm still a bit anxious about balancing schooling and life with a toddler and newborn but I'm also really excited about this opportunity for our family.  I have spent the past couple days planning and was really excited to put an idea I found on pinterest into action.

In this bin I have a folder for each of our five school days, our current read aloud, teacher's guide, phonics guide and thinking skills workbooks.  I love that everything is all in one place and all I need to do is grab  things as we go.

Party Prep

The twins and I have been working on decorations and party favors for a couple weeks now as we've had time.  I'm really excited to see how the party turns out and I know they are really looking forward to it!
